Donnie McClurkin-Psalms, Hymns, & Spiritual
Songs
Written
by Bobby Parker, WAUG-AM PD
Pastor Donnie
McClurkin is back and he has come back on top so I guess he can retire on top like Michael Jordan. I think he’ll be back again and again like Jordan too. This is the follow-up-album to his very successful project, “Again”. Now Pastor is planning on calling it quits after one more CD, then he’s giving his all to his church
ministry in New York.
So hitting the Billboard Gospel charts at #1 and also the top of every other chart ain’t bad, like the new Billboard
radio monitor Gospel chart and # 1 on R&R’s Gospel chart. LOL, way
to go! He hit the charts with this double-CD set with over 52,000 units sold
in the project’s first week. This is THE album to have. It’s got real church songs and there’s something for everyone.
“Psalms, Hymns & Spiritual Songs,” is a comprehensive 2-disc that features a host of guest stars including
label mates Joann Rosario & Richard Smallwood, Atlanta’s
Gospel songbird Dottie Peoples, and tourmate Kirk Franklin who appears on a bonus track entitled, “Ooh Child,”
the soul classic revisited. “I Call You Faithful”, is the sing-a-long
jam. You won’t be able to stop singing YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! You will love all of these songs. Enjoy!

New Direction-Send The Praise
Written: Joyce Davis Joyce.Davis@genworth.com
This group from Chicago is back in such an awesome way that they will be included in Stellar Awards consideration
again. With the funky title You’re Welcome Here. This song brings such high energy, that Youth Praise and Worship Teams should jump on this one. I Came To Jesus is getting a lot of airplay and is hot. The leader is really singing under such a powerful
anointing. I came to Jesus, as I was, worried, wounded and sad. This should take them to the top of the chart. Peace
is the next song on the project and is such a glorious song of meditation. With
lyrics when darkness comes, I will never leave you. What a comfort to know that
Jesus is always there for us. I Got It, is just another hot song from this Stellar
Award Choir. I’ll Fly Away is a remake of a Hezekiah Walker hit that is
done at a slower pace. It is nice saints.
Fill Me Up is next on the project. The beat reminds me of Rev. Milton
Brunson’s My Mind Is Made Up, so that automatically makes it a hot track. Jump,
Get Excited is next. This Choir is so high energy that I just vision them getting
crazy for the Lord. After you have had a rough day they ask you to Hold On. Awesome
praise and worship experience can be manifested on this one. Just Hold On. God is going to show up real soon. Next
on the project is Shower Down, followed by Nothing Without You. The last song
on the project is Band Jam. This is letting the musicians play under the anointing and it is awesome.
This is a must for any music collection. New Direction, this was worth
the wait. God Bless.

John P. Kee & New Life Community Choir-The Reunion Project
Written by Bobby Parker, WAUG-AM PD
b_parker1340@hotmail.com
This is my homeboy and real true friend, Pastor John P. Kee
coming back strong with the original New Life Singers on the Reunion project. If you enjoyed or
was blessed by any of the past New Life projects, then this one is a MUST-HAVE! With
20 years now under their belt, this choir is back with a studio- recorded album that features some of their classic hits and
some new ones. This choir was the first one that I played on air in the late
80’s when I first started in radio in Durham, NC and John P. Kee would call up to the station to say hello. I have never forgotten that and we are still good friends today.
So this is a real Reunion, and on the project a lot of the original choir members
came back for this CD including Men Of Standard members now, Isaac Caree and Lowell Pye.
Newcomer Tye Tribbett is on the project and no stranger to the NLCC is Vanessa Bell Armstrong. One of my favorite songs on this double-disc CD is the tune, “Wave It Away”, I have always
loved the original and now it’s at a new level. Check out the medley of
everybody’s favorites’, “Wash Me”, “Rain On Us”, “Sweeter”, and “Walk
By Faith”. The radio is bangin’ the latest single, “I’m
Covered”, which is one of the new cutz and I like the jam, “We’re Back”. Please enjoy all the classics and share this project with someone and watch God show up in your praise. Oh yeah, pump up the mix of “Show Up/Right Here”! Now this here is real Gospel Music from a real brother who is a real friend, biggups to you Pastor Kee.

Lyle And Deborah Dukes The Harvest
Life Changers Church
Mass Choir- In His Presence
Written by Bobby Parker, WAUG-AM NC b_parker1340@hotmail.com
I love this powerful project
from a hot choir that is just burning up the charts and Gospel radio and you will rejoice along with them when you catch hold
of this one. It was recorded live at the Harvest Life Changers
Church, International in Woodbridge,
VA under the teachings of Pastors and executive producers, Pastor Lyle Dukes
and Co-Pastor Deborah Dukes. This is a blessed ministry and a very good CD for
you to enjoy. I was truly blessed. I
had the pleasure to interview Pastor Lyle Dukes and he is a down-to-earth man of God who is so excited about what God is doing
for his ministry. Just place the disc in your player and you will see what I
mean. Pump up the church flavored tune, “We Praise You” and you better
move to the radio-jam, “You’ve Got To Move” now that’s back in the woods ch’rch, I love it! Other cutz to give a listen to are: “Sacrifice Of Praise”, the anointed “The Wind of God” featuring Praise-n-Worship leader Stephen Hurd who will
have you lifting up your hands to God. Have some serious church with the choir
tune, “Can I Get a Witness” and please enjoy the bass groovin’ cut, “He Promised” with LaShun
Pace and look out for the soon to be video of the song, “God’s Chosen People”. You will be in his presence when you get this project, enjoy.

The Andrews Brothers-Free Indeed
Written by:Bobby Parker, 750AM WAUG NC
b_parker1340@hotmail.com
I was simply blown away from these brothers when I placed the
disc in the playa. They are indeed Gospel music’s best-kept secret cause I did not know of their flow til I received
the single in the mail. Where have you guys been? Oh my bag…they are from Dallas Texas and these
boys are bad! Real Brothers, Chris and Eric Andrews are coming out with a bang even though they have been pounding the pavement
in the industry for a long while, now it’s their time with a hot new project entitled, "Free Indeed". The Andrew Bros
have received numerous Awards in Texas but now the world
is getting’ ready to receive their fresh crisp soulful style of Gospel. Turn up this CD and let the funky urban jamz
bump the your speakers to uplift you to a happy spirit. Check out the neo-soul Prince, DeAngelo flavored selection, "Higher"
then pump up the Churchy hard hittin’ cut, "Saved Sanctified" featuring the talented Tonex. I’m jammin’
the title cut at my station, "Free Indeed" and the Texas
love is all over the song, "Soldier" featuring Kim Burrell. When you see these guys in person you will take notice and now
their music is going to get some attention as well. Biggupps
to the Andrew Brothers and thanks for the interview, I love the project. Grace-n-Peace!

Demetrius Tolefree-Saved: The Revival
Written by: Bobby Parker,WAUG 750AM NC
This is a nice
sounding new project from an anointed brother name, Demetrius Tolefree. I like
this CD from a new music ministry that adds some upbeat and uplifting songs to the industry.
Tolefree has a soulful voice and a strong message to deliver. Tolefree
is from the Bay area and the project is produced by David Jackson. This is a
serious church album with all types of music styles. Check out the hard-hittin’
contemporary gospel tune, “Thank You” and the mellow church classic, “Oh, How I Love Jesus” and the
groovin’, “Calling You”. You have to check out the ‘ole
revival tune, “Granny’s Medley”, a cut that Tolefree’s grandmother taught him. (I like it!) My mind is made up and I am really enjoying this CD. Now it’s
time for you to go get Saved…the Revival.

Michael Brooks & Royal Priesthood-Self Titled
Written by Bobby Parker, WAUG-AM NC
Michael Brooks is a legendary figure
in the industry and one of the original members of the contemporary group Commissioned, at least he told me himself that he
was in the ROOM. He has worked with them and he formed THE female group
of Gospel, Witness, which his lovely wife is a part of, the talented Lisa Page Brooks.
Now this songwriter, producer and also he’s a Pastor is back with his own choir, the Royal Priesthood, with a
very inspiring project. I love the radio jam, “Nothing Too Hard For Him”,
the hard guitar-driven cut, “Great King” and the house party cut, “Be Encouraged”. The 10-track CD is full of great songs and you will enjoy it as well and if you’re ever in Detroit
check out Pastor Brooks at the Restoration Ministries. Grace-n-Peace!

Lori Perry-Wrote This Song
Written by:Bobby Parker, WAUG-AM PD
Do you like Jazz music and you’re
also a Gospel lover? Well you will go head over heels over this spiritual
offering from Lori Perry, it’s a masterpiece for the Master and I am really enjoying this sound that can be heard all
over Gospel radio stations throughout the country. This project is full of wonderful
music with that gospel jazzy R&B flavor and Lori is no stranger to good music. She
started out with her sisters in the group called Perri. It took a few
years for her very own solo project but now is the time and man it was worth the wait.
Lori calls her style GoJazz, which is the combination of Gospel and Jazz music and she will take you on a pleasant
journey with this sound and her silky voice. Just check out the title track,
“Wrote This Song”, a smooth jazzy tune about a song that she wrote to Christ.
It features George Duke and it will bless many listeners. Check out the
radio favorite, “I Found It In You” NICE!! Just when you thought
that she couldn’t get any smoother, listen to “Nine Eleven” featuring the Harp sounds of Jeff Majors. I love this GoJazz…GoLori.

A7-Selftitled
Written by: Bobby Parker, WAUG-AM
I know these guys…they are BAD!! Bad meaning awesome and they sing with or with any music. These guys are real brothers and all their names begin with the letter A, Antonio, Alonzo, Arcelious, Alexander,
Andronicus and Antipas. Okay that’s only 6 brothers ooooooh the 7th
is the presence of God therefore A7. They were called the A-Boys back in the
day but now they are here with a fresh awesome sound on this self-titled project. The
album is full of R&B, Jazz, and some Hip Hop. The CD includes collaborative
productions between A7, 4x Grammy Award-winning producer, my homeboy and fellow church member Michael Mathis and hip-hop producer
DJ Wilson. Bring In The Noise with Praise and check out cut 1 of A7’s
hot CD, “Bring In The Noise”. These guys have voices that can go
up against any R&B group but their focus is to minister Jesus to the people and encourage the saints…see what I
mean on the jam, “Cry No More (Teary Eyes)”. Put your hands on this
one, “Church Time In The South” AAAAAMEN!! I am truly in love with
the radio slow cut, “Don’t Walk Away” which is sooo smooth. So
don’t walk away from this CD. Biggups to A7!

Tunesha Crispell-Just As I Am
Written by: Stanley Bray
In
an age when gospel music is being heavily compromised, it is exciting to know that some are yet holding fast to the gospel
music banner. Tunesha Crispell is one who refuses to abandon her God-given gift
for temporary pleasure, but wholeheartedly proclaims the wonder of God through this solo effort. As a featured vocalist on several projects of James Hall and Worship and Praise, Tunesha takes the same
delivery and creates a solid project that will motivate the heart and soul of man.
The CD begins with the aptly titled “C.O.G.I.C./Apostolic Medley,” arranged
by Melvin Crispell. The medley sets the tone for the remainder of the project
– an exaltation of the faithfulness and greatness of God. Tunesha embraces
the prayerful “Dwell
in Me.” She
majestically approaches God and implores Him to be with her always. “Just As I Am” is transformed from a Sunday-morning hymn to a heartening desire to please God. The background singers punctuate the message of the song with the poignant words “Here I am.” Tunesha excitedly ministers how God can do the impossible in one’s life. “Saved,” another hymn arrangement, is simple,
yet declares the beauty of life through being saved by God’s power. The
singers import the listener to a place of sincere worship and victorious praise.
Other highlights include the bass-laden, groove-fused On My Way, the declarative Open My Mouth, and the sweetly ministered Victory in Jesus.
With
Melvin Crispell at the helm of the production, a solid band and an urbane group of background singers, Tunesha introduces
a lively and encouraging message to the world. Each song is approached with godly
fear as she expresses God’s awesome. Tunesha, do not change.

Fortitude-Self Titled
Written by Bobby Parker, 750AM WAUG NC
Four hot new young men who CAN sing are about to make some serious
noise in the gospel industry and as far as I am concerned they have already done that not everybody else has to play
catch-up. These guys are HOT, ANOINTED & FRESH! Yeah, they do remind me of a young Commissioned and one of them sounds like and looks like Marvin Sapp(very uncanny), but they are Fortitude.
Produced by Roger Ryan, Berris Bolton, Derek Allen, Alex Ward, and Desmond Pringle...WOW, I wish my debut album credits looked
like that. These are very humble and can sing til the power of God comes down. I was so blessed to see them showcase
at the GMWA and they blew me away. Just check them out and you too will see what I mean. The entire project is
great. Cut 1-10. Pump up jamz like, "He's Alright", "He Will Supply", "My Faith" and they did an awesome job on
the Winans' classic, "The Question Is". I love the album now you get yours. Grace-n-Peace!

Charles Davis & The Clouds-Trust In Jesus
Written by Bobby Parker, WAUG-AM PD
Quartet fans get ready for a hot new CD just for you, it's coming from the debut project from Charles Davis & the Clouds

with this hot traditional-flavored album. The Clouds have that old-school, but new 2005 jammin' upbeat gospel to deliver to
the saints and you will enjoy what they have to offer. Producer Glen Stevenson worked with this group, the same man who co-produced
heavyweights Doc McKenzie and Lee Williams. The project was recorded live in their home state in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Just
place the disc in your player and you will hear the awesome Quartet-flava coming out of the speakers and you will put your
hands together...can't help it... I LOVE IT! Rock wit the Clouds on cut 1, "Few More Days", an upbeat groovin' tune that every
male chorus in churches around the country will be learning and tearin' up their Sunday services with. Turn it up on other
stand out cutz like the title cut, "Trust In Jesus", "Doing Fine" and "Hard Times". Then you gotta check out the urban-soulful
ballad, "Broken Pieces", oh they don't get in a hurry on this one, it's nice and mellow and these men can SING!!! 12 hot traditional

It’s been nearly three years since we last heard from the Voices of Unity (V.O.U), the powerhouse vocal ensemble
of Deitrick Haddon which brought a fresh new futuristic sound into the gospel music industry during the late 1990’s
and early 2000’s. Since their last album, Supernatural, Deitrick has experienced probably the greatest success of his
career with his 2002 solo debut on Verity records, titled Lost and Found.
Now in 2004, Deitrick returns to the Voices of Unity to record All Star Edition for Tyscot Records. This CD was produced
by mainly by Deitrick Haddon, who wrote or co-wrote 11 of the 12 songs on the project. Other producers on this CD are Horace
Jackson and David (Da Da) Haddon.
Since it has been so long since we have heard from V.O.U., one may ask if V.O.U. still has the unmistakable flavor and
uniqueness that was clearly evident in Supernatural and their 1999 release Chain Breaker. Rest assured that V.O.U. still retains
their signature sound that made them so popular, and this can be heard in the opening track, "Are You Ready". This
R&B/hip-hop flavored track features the always astounding vocals of Deitrick and Damita Haddon, and is enhanced by a rap
from Natalie Sims, Andrew Hall, and Brian Hippolite. Other tracks such as Who Is It and When God display V.O.U.’s ability
to make quality gospel music with gospel rap.
Perhaps where V.O.U. shines the brightest on this album are on the contemporary church styled songs, "We Invite You
In" and "My Soul Say Yes". The former is a slow worship ballad lead by Clareta Jackson, while the latter is an
upbeat, highly contagious song of praise to the Lord, lead by Damita Haddon. Both of these songs could easily find a place
in the worship services of several churches nationwide.
Deitrick returns to the forefront in the song "I Just Can’t Praise You Enough", another standout on this album.
Deitrick’s vocals are always excellent, and this song is no different as he brings this song to life while showcasing
his vocal range at the same time. Sean Hardin has his turn at lead in the song "Jesus is a Rock", another high point
on the album. "Encourage Yourself" is lead by Melody Armstrong, daughter of Vanessa Bell Armstrong, who also makes
a guest appearance on this song.
Overall, All Star Edition is an outstanding comeback CD for the Voices of Unity. There is something on this project for
all music tastes, whether it is R&B, church styled gospel, or slow ballads. This album more than anything else makes a
statement that V.O.U. is not going anywhere anytime soon, and the best is yet to be seen for this All-Star gospel group.

Gerald Hinton & The New Redeemers-You Don't Know How Blessed You Are
Written by Bobby Parker, WAUG-AM NC
It’s been a long time coming but God works things out in his own time.
Now it’s Gerald Hinton’s time…Congrats fellows! This
is one of the most exciting projects out today from Raleigh, NC native, Gerald
Hinton, who I grew up on his music, and now he’s bursting into the mainstream with his first class quartet/R&B style
music for the rest of the country to grab hold of. Rev. Milton Biggham of Savoy records saw this group and signed them right on the spot because
of their unique sound of the gospel. Check them out for yourselves. Hot cutz: “Go The Distance” (HOT!), “You Don’t Know How Blessed You Are”(It
makes you think.), and give a listen to “I Owe”. This is a Great
CD for the young and the young at heart. You will be blessed.

Tonex-Out The Box
Written by: Bobby Parker,WAUG-AM NC
Out The Box is the long awaited project from gospel's music prodigy Tonéx and the Peculiar People.
He is an
awesome artist who many thought would not make it in the gospel industry but he has made it and now is out of the box finally.Out
The Box is a two disc live-recorded album from Verity Records, and is the third and best release yet from Tonéx
and is unlike no other to date.
There are a variety of music styles, including Gospel, Praise and Worship, rock and
some Broadway as well. Recorded in Tonéx's hometown of San Diego the cd features Kirk Franklin, Sheila E, a great band and
The Peculiar People a multicultural 30-voice praise team.
The production is provided by T-Bizzy, with Marcus Hodges and Steve "The Chef" Russell.
On the first disc which
is subtitled San Diego City, the intro comes from Yolanda Adams ,Tonéx jumps right into the rock/Gospel "Trust Theory", with
The Peculiar People doing backup vocals.
The fire keeps going with "Alive", which features a horn treat from The Jackson
Five's "Dancing Machine". During this, Tonéx and the people talk about Jesus resurrection in a story which includes chant,
song and a lot more. Then after that immediately comes the reprise, "Alive 2", featuring Tonex's high pitch voice and the
electric guitar by Tim Stewart of hip hop crew, 4th Avenue Jones.
"Work on Me" has some good gospel feel and to me
it will be sung by choirs all over the nation.
Tonéx just shows out with his clever song "Games" and the whole song
is the theme music for the Family Feud game show. The cut is to notify people of Christ's coming return. "Children's
Bread" is all about deliverance. Ms. Tonex comes in near the end with great ad-libs.
Tonéx goes back to some old throwbacks
with "Real With U", "Why?" and "Taxi" as well as radio cuts "Personal Jesus" and "God Has Not 4Got". My boy Kirk Franklin
plays the piano as Tonéx sings and testifies about how God has brought him out.
On the disc two subtitled San Diego
County, Tonéx moves into Praise and Worship mode, with the hip hop slam jam "Nureau Ink".
Then there's that track that
you remeber if watched 2004 Stellar Awards won't forget —"Todos Juntos" The Southern California District Choir and Sheila
E. add some Latin flavor. Then she even speaks some Spanish.
"Believer" is a awesome choir song that will have you
all over the place.
Then the worship wind comes through with "Your Word" with Morpheus doing vocals with Tonéx and "The Spirit Realm". The
first radio single from the album, "Make Me Over", is a just that a make over for the saints. Radio is blowing this masterpiece
up!
Kirk Franklin also helps out on the radio favorite with Tonéx on "Since Jesus Came".
Studio cuts include
"God Is Love" and "Doesn't Really Matter" featuring Ink Delegate Applejaxx and "Ain't" features Wyzeguys on bass guitar.
"Thank
Q" is a a thankful attitude track. Hey there is one bonus track on the project. I think its "That Devil Lyin'", and reminds
you of "My Baby Daddy".
Out The Box, is properly named because that is what Tonex has done. The 36 track album
speaks to all. This one of the best albums I have heard yet and Tonex will be getting some awards I guarantee you, I hope
he does three more before it's all done. Watch out for the hot DVD!

Israel & New Breed-Another Level
Written by: Marcus Wilson
Now in 2004
Israel and New Breed return for their third recording Live From Another Level. If
you thought that his last two albums were groundbreaking, you will definitely not be disappointed in this offering. Live From Another Level follows in the same form as New Season, except this time around it’s twice
as better. This offering, produced by Israel Houghton and Aaron Lindsey, is not one, but two CDs which contain 21 tracks and nearly two hours of nonstop praise and worship
that is sure to usher you into the presence of God.
The first disc is aptly sub-titled Higher and is filled mostly with upbeat praise music which will take
you higher level in the presence of God. “Come in From the Outside”
starts out the first disc in good fashion with its catchy chorus and horn section. The
party only intensifies with “Again I Say Rejoice”, which is the first radio single from the album. The next few tracks continue in the same form to elevate the listener to a higher
level in God without a single dull moment.
Bishop
Joseph Garlington makes an appearance towards the end of this disc to bring a spoken word on the awesomeness of being
God’s friend. He then leads the sincere worship song “So Easy
to Love You”. Here we see a glimpse of what the second disc, sub-titled
Deeper, will mostly consist of: heartfelt
worship that will take you deeper into the presence of God. The first disc ends
with the beginning of “Friend of God”, the first track of the second disc.
The second disc picks up right where the first
disc leaves off with Friend of God, another song that has ‘radio hit’ written all over it. This song is without a doubt one of the best tracks of the project.
After this song, Israel and New
Breed enter into the presence of God through heartfelt worship. The theme of
being friends with God continues with the song “Friend”, which is another one of the best tracks of the
CD. The lyrics of this song are simply amazing.
“…There will never be a Friend, as
dear to me as You
There will never be another, closer than a brother
Friend, always worth the wait, as faithful as
the day,
To say we are friends…”
The worship
experience continues with wonderful worship songs such as “Another Breakthrough” and “Breathe
into Me”. Among the worship songs, the one that stands out the most
is Israel’s cover of the song “Here
I Am To Worship.” This song is well on its way to being a worship anthem
nationwide and possibly even worldwide. The CD ends in celebration with the title
track “Going to Another Level.”
There has been much excitement surrounding the
release of this CD and rightly so. This CD is easily among the best gospel releases
of 2004. This CD surely will give Israel
and New Breed the recognition that they deserve for bringing us high quality gospel music for the 21st century.

This track
is titled “7-Ds”, and it features a rap by Brian “BJ”
Hyppolite. This track is followed by the danceable “God is Good”,
which is also the first radio release from this CD. If you liked Sinner’s
Prayer (and who didn’t) from the Lost and Found CD, then you will love “God Didn’t Give Up”
from the Crossroads CD. This song packs a powerful message which will have you
thanking God that He didn’t give up on us despite of what we may have done.
Crossroads
is filled with guest appearances on different tracks, ranging from guest singers and choirs, to guest rappers and pastors. One noteworthy track is the title track which features a rap from Natalie “Lady Life” Simms. This track is simply tight
and is a definite standout on the CD. Rance
Allen makes a guest appearance on the traditional styled “Had Not Been”. The soul-stirring track “Amen” is a powerful song about Christ’s sacrifice on
the cross and is graced by the Without Walls International Church M.V.P. Youth Choir. Pastor Paula White is featured on the
closing track “Walls are Tumbling”, enhancing the track with preaching and exhortation.
Other standout
tracks on this CD include “What Love”. This song has a hot
beat and a great message which sings about the awesome love of Jesus. The almost
Isley-styled “Stir the Gift” is arguably the most creative song on the CD and one of the catchiest tracks
as well. This song is very contagious and very easy to fall in love with.
Deitrick
Haddon has shown incredible momentum from his start with the Voices of Unity in the mid 1990’s up to this point in 2004,
and he is showing no signs of slowing down. Crossroads is an album that you will
absolutely love. It is awesome from beginning to end, and it is one of the strongest
gospel albums of 2004.
